So I've received an e-mail forward multiple times that goes something like this:It is said that
86% of Americans believe in God.. Therefore I have a very hard time
understanding why there is such a problem in having 'In God We Trust' on our
money and having 'God' in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just tell the
14% to BE QUIET!!!

Now, I'm not commenting on removing (the word) God from the Pledge of Allegiance or money. I'm not commenting on my own personal beliefs. I'm not commenting on agreeing or disagreeing with this statement. I'm not commenting on the content of this statement.

Is is just me, or is there something about the notion "you're in the minority with your belief, therefore you should shut up" a little....un-American?

Yes, and statistically it's also a false correlation. A person's belief in God is not automatically indicative of his or her belief that it should or should not be placed on a national currency or in our pledge. The belief of the 86% might strongly suggest that they're favorable of the inclusion of God in these things, but there may very well be a portion of that percentage who are indifferent or against the usage of God in state affairs. Belief isn't an automatic, causal link to the conclusion.
Such a stupid email that shows the ignorance and naivete of the great majority of people. I agree with both your points and the points that "tom" made.
I like how you put "tom" in quotation marks, as if he is not real. Perhaps he is a fake google identity I made up and used to comment on my blog to encourage others to do so - think 'salting the tip jar'. Please be assured he is a real reader.
I think I might refer to myself in quotations from now on, though. It lends an air of mystery. As in: "Tom... if that's your REAL name..."
I'm putting 'In God We Trust' in the fine print of my blog.
