So I periodically get emails from 'Alumni Junction' that my high school classmates have posted messages for me on their site. It is specific classmates by name that I remember, but either a) it's someone I've never spoke to, so I highly doubt he or she is contacting me or b) it's someone who could contact me on facebook, so why is he or she writing me on a random site instead?
Anyhow. I keep getting these emails. I went to their site. I know these 'messages from my classmates' must by lies. I attempted to login - I clicked 'forgot password'. It emailed me my 'password'. Let's just say I'm, for better or worse, too much of a creature of habit - this is not a password I'd choose. I found it odd that it sent me a password, instead of telling me to create a login/account. As I started to think about it, I had no recollection of ever being at the site and creating an account (not that it is something so noteworthy that it'd stick out in my mind, but still).
I know there is some kind of sham here. I am not sure what, exactly, and I do not want this blog to be sued for libel. So, I do not have any hard evidence, nor am I making a direct accusation, but something seems off. Does anyone know anything about alumni junction? I did a brief google and I found someone discussing, on his own blog, in relation to his upcoming high school reunion, that he directly spoke to someone who 'posted a message to him on alumni junction' and she directly told him that she had not. Your thoughts? Anyone have more information? Any alumni junction users out there?

In my case there are two places the information could have come from, Classmates.com or Facebook.
I've recieved at least 2 emails telling me my buddy from Jr. Hi. sent me a message. He died years ago. I just recieved 3 emails today saying that people I don't know left a message. I don't see how they get away with this. They've never gotten my money but you know they probably get plenty from others less cautious.
I am wondering, anons, if maybe they get the info from public records on the names of high school graduates from schools from certain years (is there such a thing?) - that could explain the dead friend's name coming up. Are they an organization that looks for a paid subscription? Or perhaps they are just looking for names/email addresses to sell to other marketers? Does anyone out there know more? Has anyone paid for alumni junction's services? I am curious to hear more.
HI! I guess I am too late on discovering that it is a SCAM. I signed up for membership a year ago.Since then,I haven't received anymore emails-messages from Alumni Juncton! No posts-messages were even listed once I did become a member.(Hmm imagine that)I remember even being charged a fee for using my credit card since company is out of the country.Only found that out when called my bank asking about the fee.I am going to contact my bank and block any authorization for Alumni Junction just in case they try to renew my membership!I just realized it was coming up on 1 year since joined and was trying to go to site and cancel membership when found this link by just typing in Alumni Junction.Am curious to see how many others like myself was ripped off. I will check back.
oh - interesting. are there any decent 'privileges' for members? how much do they charge? does it have anything interesting for members?
I've received multiple messages from Alumni Junction claiming that people I didn't know posted messages to my page. Quite a few this month (June 2012). You can't see anything useful on the site without paying a fee. I'm certain there's nothing there. I have my email and website posted to my HS alumni page, I'm on Facebook, and I'm at the top of Google for a search of my name due to owning a real estate company with highly ranked website. Why would anyone use Alumni Junction to contact me? It makes no sense. Pure SCAM!
I've got several messages from this site in the last few months telling me that I had a message from ..... MYSELF! It said to log on and read it. I certainly didn't log onto this site to email myself.
It is a complete sham.I know people who have paid to become a member and then get no service. Send any of their messages to the spam folder and delete.
A message from yourself, anon! LOL! I wonder if anyone's contacted the BBB on them. Or, if any of the specific people whose names have been used could take any legal action against them.
Thanks so much for posting this, and all the people who responded. I keep getting emails from this company too, and I highly doubted I was getting messages from all these people, so I googled Alumni Junction to see if I could find a discussion such as this one. I will be marking all future emails as spam.
Well, this just goes to show that one should check out the web before buying into something that seems innocent. In closing my account, I left this message for the reason I wanted to quit:
After upgrading my account in January 2012 and paying for a lifetime membership, you keep reporting that I don't have an upgraded membership and block me from further access. I have written to you more than once trying to get you to change my status as I had paid for it through PayPal, but have gotten no satisfactory response from your customer service. I now believe like many other people you have scammed that you suck!!!!
Oh well, live and learn, I hope.
I had the same experience. Paid for "lifetime membership" in June 2011, contacted them for the third time in March 2013 and never got past "you don't have full access - pay to upgrade" with no satisfaction from them. Learned my lesson too.
Yep...wish I'd seen this post prior to paying $34.00 for a 'lifetime' membership.....and have never been able to access the website since then!
