Volkswagen Bug.

So the other day, I was on the expressway out to Aurora for the spectacular Coach outlet store.  On the way there, I encountered a Volkswagen Bug.

Do people still drive these cars?  I mean, apparently, the answer is yes.  I remember them being the super hot back when I was high school - and I'm not going to go into how long ago that was, but it was a while ago.  Anyhow.  They were trendy moreso than functional.  However, at this point in time, haven't they gone out of style?  I realize that some of them might still work - I'm not really sure.  However, I just can't wrap my head around someone owning a bug out of functionality.  I seem to remember (and I could be totally wrong) that they weren't particularly safe or cheap.  They were a fashion statement.  I've made quite a few of them myself - no judgment, bug owners.  However, I just can't wrap my head around why anyone might own a bug in the year 2011.  I can hear Ross Gellar screaming 'You've got a blacklight!  It's 1999!'

Your thoughts?  Any Volkswagen Bug enthusiasts out there?  Are these really cool out in the suburbs (like, say, Applebees)?  Can anyone think of a good reason to own a VW Bug in 2011?!

Something I Just Don't Get....

People wearing ipod headphones while driving.

I have seen this on multiple occasions.  Something about it seems very dangerous.  Despite the fact that one can listen to music over the radio, the headphones seem like a major distraction.  Especially cause they could easily come out if one turns his head quickly for some reason.

What I REALLY don't get is when someone is doing this while ALONE in the car.  I could see if this was done out of some juvenile argument that one passenger doesn't want to have to listen to another's music, but SERIOUSLY.   Does the person just not own whatever device is needed to play the ipod through the radio?  Does he not know where to buy it?  It's not like it's that expensive or hard to get - it's considerably cheaper than both an ipod and a car accident.

Also, this ESPECIALLY doesn't make sense to me when the person is driving locally - can't he suffer it out with the radio for the 10 minutes, or what have you?  I have seen several people driving through my neighborhood with the earbuds in (or maybe I keep seeing the same person.  This is possible).

Anyhow.  Anyone else notice this bizarre act?  Anyone else find it dangerous?  Anyone out there do this?  Anyone not know where to buy the device to play the ipod through the radio?!?!

Back to This Subject

Remember that whole ordeal of 'if you're caught by the cameras going one single solitary mile over 45 in a construction zone, you'll be mailed a $375 fine on your first offense, a $1000 on your second'? Did this actually happen? Did anyone out there actually get the dreaded ticket, or know someone who did? Was this just an empty threat? I ask this because, every time I drive through said zone, NO ONE seems to have slowed down 45, or even close to it. So, either hundreds of these offenses are ticketed daily, or none are and it was all an empty threat to get people driving safer (which didn't work). Your thoughts? Anyone know someone who got a ticket?
