Timeline?

So I was just reading in Cosmo (I know, AGAIN) that, if you are a woman in your twenties, it is now finally acceptable to not have a five year plan.

Well, PHEW.  Thank goodness, cause I surely didn't have one.   I swear, I had no idea we even had this assignment!  (How many times have I said THAT in my life?!?!)

Anyhow - I am curious - does anyone out there have a five year plan?  Goals are good, but something about this seems strange.  Where does everyone see herself in the next couple five years?  Does anyone have an answer that DOESN'T involve the statements 'getting married and having kids' or 'getting my dream job'?

Your thoughts?  Should I acquire a five year plan?

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I have no idea what a woman's "five year plan" is, but not ashamed to ask.

In general, I've never thought of my life through that sort of lens. I don't believe in planning out long periods of your life, because you have no idea what randomness God will interject into your life.

But I do believe in having direction and being adaptable.

If that makes sense.

BTW, in the field I'm in, the "Five Year Plan" referred to a series of Soviet economic development plans: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five-Year_Plan_(USSR)

I thought this was a funny coincidence, and has the potential to be a hilarious joke if applied to your post's context.

And I'm a nerd.

oh my gosh Cosmo is ridiculous. I hope you are not taking it seriously. No, I don't have a 5 year plan. My five year plan is maintain a steady job and pay all of my bills. That's it. Yes, I'd like to get married someday, yes I'd like kids, yes I'd like to live in California, but I absolutely do not believe in setting timelines. I believe in setting goals, not timelines. What happens when you miss the date? Are you an absolute failure then? I say no no and no to these things.

What's a "Five Year Plan"? From Cosmo's perspective are women the only ones who have them? Is the fice year plan only personal. Interesting.

I have professional and artistic goals that I would love to complete by 30 (but that makes it more a 4 year plan, I think).

Cosmo is weird. Did they really just decide that it's ok for 20somethings to have goals not centered around a new last name and pushing out babies?
