So, as you know, I am an Apple user. I am in no way shape or form a computer expert (shh, don't tell my coworkers), however, let me say this:
I bought this apple four and a half years ago. Knock on wood, it has never once had a virus, crashed, or lost anything of value (or, for that matter, anything not of value). Going 'Mac' was a decision based on three factors:
1) I had just acquired an ipod a couple months earlier and I really liked how it operated.
2) I'd had a bad experience with my college computer (every roommate I'd ever had made fun of it - I somehow ended up with a lemon).
3) Honestly, I was impressed with the aesthetics and marketing of Apple. I, as an advertising major, would tell you firsthand that this is not a good reason to buy something, but, I did have some backing with reasons 1 & 2.
Anyhow - as I said earlier, despite the fact that I don't do video-editing or various other Mac-specific activities and that I probably paid $200 more for my computer than say, the PC equivalent, my Mac has given me peace of mind, and one can't put a price on that. I am very happy with my decision and, honestly, I don't forsee myself needing to buy a new computer any time in the next couple years (knock on wood...), but if everything continues as is, my next computer will for sure be a Mac.

You wrote this just to bait me. haha.
Well, here are my counterpoints:
1. Ipods work on PCs.
I have an old ipod nano that no longer works, I have an ipod shuffle, and I have an iphone. All 3 worked perfectly with my PCs and none of them have made me want to obtain a Mac.
2. You admit that your college computer was a lemon. Most PCs are not lemons and they work quite well. For example, my Dell laptop, purchased in 2004, still runs very well. Another point-if you take a few minutes to actually figure out how a computer works, you will find that most things such as viruses can easily be avoided. Seriously, a little education goes a long way.
3. You admit that the Apple marketing machine has gotten to you. I'm not sure where you got the $200 difference from, but when I last looked for a computer (a few months ago), the cheapest Apple was $1200. I got my new laptop for $500. I don't see how paying at least $700 for a computer that does exactly the same thing is worth it at all.
You also admit that you don't do graphics or any Mac specific activites.
So pretty much, you bought a Mac because you like Apple's shiny design and marketing? Wow. Way to drink the Apple Kool-Aid!
Whatever, my mom did the same thing. (she bought a Mac) I just told her to take it to the Mac geniuses if she needs help, because I hate Apple's OS and find it extremely non user friendly. It just reinforces my idea that Apples are designed for lazy people who don't care to understand their hardware.
END RANT.
:-)
Wow Piper. What a tirade! J/K.
Ok - first off - I bought this Mac for around $875 back in 2005. The comparable PCs I was looking at were in the 600 range.
I do realize that the ipod works with all computers pretty much, it was more that I liked the way the device and program worked.
I personally have no trouble 'speaking apple'.
I had a Dell back in college. I will never go Dell again, not only because of my experience with the computer but also with the way they handled the situation.
Anyhow. It's fine for you to choose the PC, but I don't, and I never will again. :-)
all right, truce. you can have your Apple, I will keep my PC and all will be fantastic!
