Snowday?

I have, for long, thought it impossible for me, in my current role/location, to get a 'snowday'.

It appears as though there might be A CHANCE.

Wishing, and hoping, and thinking, and praying....

Word Challenge.

So two of my readers must be avid Scrabble players, because they challenged the word 'romantical' from one of my previous posts.

Drumroll, please....

It's a word.

Per dictionary.com:
Ro`man´tic`al

a.1.Romantic.

Very insightful.

I prefer urbandictionary.com's assessment:

All romantic and shit.
Baby, this trip is romantical.
(I personally think the line "is it enough to get me laid?" is implied at the end of that definition.)

It's Coming....

It's not quite February.  I've already had several friends declare they are 'dreading valentine's day'.

Does anyone out there LOVE Valentine's day?  Is anyone really excited about it or even looking forward to it?

I believe at this point, some would say 'don't answer that'.

I have not had a romantical Valentine in quite a while.  It looks as though, most likely, I won't have one this year either.  That is ok with me.  However, a small part of me is still holding out hope.

Dinner Party Recap

veggie pizza

buffalo chicken dip

spicy turkey meatballs

deviled eggs, cheese, veggies, taco dip

chips, guac, hummus

So my dinner party was a huge success, if I do say so myself.  Not to play monday morning quarterback, but in hindsight, I made WAY TOO MUCH food.  I have way too many perishable leftovers.   Don't get me wrong - I'm glad I had choices for my guests.  But I made enough to feed around 30, while I was expecting 8.  Oops.  If you're in the hood, please feel free to stop by for leftovers.

Big Events in my Life.

So in the very near future, I will be hosting a dinner party.

Well this is a first.  And I am nervous.  I have never prepared food for a group of people before.  I'm not going to lie - this makes me antsy.

Well, I have some good recipes on hand, so I feel pretty good about this.  My ultimate goal is a) that people have fun and b) that I don't get any food poisoning lawsuits.

Wish me luck.  Update to come.

Baby-Sitters Club.

So, it seems like a mere 8 months ago on this blog, I was talking about the infamous 'Baby-Sitters Club'.  Well, I happened to come across an article on the subject.

If you notice in the comments section - someone says 'spot fucking on'.  I concur.

Sidenote:  I always was torn between being Claudia and Stacey.  Obviously, based on the information set forth, it's official - I am Claudia.  Well, the smart version of Claudia.

American Idol, Season 10

All I know so far is Jennifer Lopez can go on a list that's been spoken of before on my blog before....

I hope this can restart her career.  At this point, does the word 're' still belong in that sentence?

Riding a Bike...

I haven't ridden a bike in 10 years.

I really hope the expression rings true, because I am going to be doing so in the near future.  EEEEK.

While We're on the Subject of Make-up Names

NARS has a real winner.  In both name and product.  It's the perfect color.  I won't mention it here, but it's very well-known in the make-up world.  It's quite possibly my favorite product.  :-)

Handwritten Letters

Random question:  Are handwritten letters a thing of the past?

I am pretty sure they are.  Or if they happen, it's cause they are forced.  Perhaps someone will read this blog post, then send me a handwritten letter for this reason.  Perhaps a man will send one to a woman as a gesture of romance, if you will. However, do these normally happen at all any more?  I feel like they are much more meaningful to their simpler, more environmental counterparts.  Not just from a romantic standpoint - there is something special and meaningful about receiving nice paper in the mail from someone who cares - right now the only ones who care about me in such a way are my credit card companies and my cable provider.  I love email but I fear it has phased out the old fashioned note on stationery.

Anyhow.  I suppose cards will always live on - e-cards don't have the same effect and haven't successfully phased them out.   However, I fear snail mail is getting phased out for good.  Am I right?  Do handwritten letters still exist?   Will they in the future, or will it be something future generations are confused by - like landline phones or perms?

Anyhow.  There is another fine selling point to the good old-fashioned handwritten note when one has something personal to say - it's not so simple to just hit 'forward'.

Going Back to My Roots

I know these are the posts everyone hates and no one is interested in.  I can't help myself, but feel free to skip.

The 2010 US Figure Skating Nationals are coming up soon.  I CANNOT wait.

For the ice dancers, I pick Davis and White, but I tend to skim the ice dancing.

For the pairs, I'm going with Yankowskis & Coughlin over Denney & Barrett or Evora & Ladwig.  The first are having a great season so far.

For the men - hmm.  I like Jeremy Abbott but I'm sure he's gonna get unseated.  I pick Brandon Mroz.  I think Ryan Bradley is still a potential threat.  Everyone really likes Adam Rippon - I think he's good but he won't get the title, at least not this year.  Speaking of - I think Mroz is a serious threat for the medal stand four years from now - saying it before it happens.

For the women - I'm going with Alissa Czisny.  She's the best of the field and I think the only one who can take her down is Mirai Nagasu.  Flatt and Wagner are good and will probably both be top five but won't win.  Of this field of competitors, with Cohen and Meissner out, Czisny is definitely, definitely my favorite.

Ok.  That is all.  For now.

Piercings....

I was afraid to google image search for a good image for this post.

Anyhow.

I know this question can be answered like almost all questions (with the simple 'google it') - however, do piercings that one has had a reasonable amount of time close?  Now, I know, in theory, the answer is yes.  However.  My ears are double pierced and I have a cartilage piercing.  At one time, I wore earrings in all these holes, however, I can say that I haven't used anything but the first holes in at least five years, and I'm pretty sure the other piercings haven't closed.  Will they ever?  Also, don't some piericings (external skin ones - like eyebrows or belly buttons) 'grow out' eventually?  Has anyone out there experienced either of these things?  Are these just urban legends?  Are there any piercing experts out there?

Please share.

Currently Reading....

Save the Assistants.

I got it from Santa.  But it was a direct request.

Here is her website:  www.savetheassistants.com

Anyhow.  After I received the book, I went to amazon to read the reviews on the subject matter.  A couple of people played it off as a book on how to be better at your job as an assistant - that kind of worried me.   I feel I have truly mastered my role.

However, upon starting the book, I realized it was a great catch.  I like the sarcastic, direct, observatory writing style of the author (Lilit Marcus).  I highly, highly recommend it.

Anyhow.  As mentioned above, Lilit has a website.  I really think she should hire me to work for her.  But not as her assistant.  Even though I trust she'll behave.

My Secret Dream Job...

...naming the OPI Nail Polishes.  Let it be known that I am perfectly qualified for this job.  I like to think I have a way with words.  I like to think I'm good at the clever little Sex and the City style puns/plays on words.  And I most certainly know their product.  I'm an avid consumer.  Right now, I am wearing High Maintenance on my fingers and Ms. Can't be Wrong on my toes.   Someone does this job.  It exists.   How can I take over?   Anyone who wants to assist in this plot is welcome.

Friendship

So recently, a good friend commented to me on how a good friend of hers completely went over the deep end.  She concluded the statement with 'if I ever go over the deep end like this, please be the voice of reason'.

I have, on multiple occasions, witnessed various friends go over said deep end.  I have handled the situation in various different ways each time.

I have come to a conclusion.  What can be done when a friend goes over the deep end?

Say nothing.  Smile, nod, and say nothing.

Please let me know if you disagree or have possibly had an experience in which a friend has replied "why yes, you are right, I AM going over the deep end, thank you so much for pointing it out".

Running Out of Topics....

Ok, I know this blog has been slacking lately.  I also know there have been quite a few posts about how this blog has been slacking lately (of the few posts I've written).  Oops.

Ok - so I know we've also been through this before, but what do I discuss on this blog?
--Politics (a little dead for now)
--My dating life (perhaps also a little dead/also - do you care?)
--Random things going on in my life (do you care?)
--Random observations I make about stuff (I'm running out of observations that haven't already been stated/recurring them of 'do you care')

Anyhow.  I pride myself on the fact that this blog discusses topics that I believe to be of interest (humor me people).  Please let me know any topics I should cover/observe/weigh in on.

Makin' Some Resolutions

So now, normally, I find the concept of New Year's Resolutions to be crap.  Not to be all philosophical (cause I find that to be crap, too), but I do believe we can all improve ourselves at any given time.

Anyhow.  That being said, I have reached a point in my life where I am in need of a change.

Here are some of my past (mostly failed) resolutions:
--Be more organized (HA!)
--Become neater/tidier (HA again, however,  I can honestly say I've improved over the past couple years - which should scare my coworkers)
--Something general along the lines of be less of a procrastinator (kind of goes with the previous two)

Anyhow.  I have come to terms with myself.  I will never be a neat freak.   I will never be a perfectionist.  I am accepting this and moving on.

Some recent successful resolutions (not necessarily of the NYE variety) were to learn more about cooking and increase my upper body strength (don't mess with me).  Anyhow.  Simple, small, non-personality adjustment resolutions are the easiest.  I haven't made any serious resolutions in a while.  However, I think this year, I am due for a couple.   I think I've avoided taking any big actions in a while out of fear of failure.  So I have avoided failing.  But I have not really succeeded at anything major (except, of course, my now having the ability to do 30 push-ups).  So, aside from blogging more, there will be some new serious resolutions.  Update to come.
