Poonchkey Day!

Yes, I know that's not the proper spelling.  I know it's paczki.  Whatevs.  I love them.  That's all I know.  These are from Central Continental Bakery in Mount Prospect.  And they are delish.

In theory, they are a 'pre-lent' feast for Fat Tuesday - after that comes Ash Wednesday and all the giving up and stuff.  I do not participate in the fasting, but I'm not averse to the feasting.

I must say, the Polacks, aka - my people, sure know how to do food.  Pierogis, Paczkis - my people sure know what they are doing.  (Yes, I am ignoring the fact that wine is largely unpopular in their culture.)

My Lee DeWyze Encounter Back in Mount Prospect (for the Welcome Home Parade Festivities)

Lee in the Q101 booth - he's pretty much dead center in the picture.  Sorry for the poor quality - it's from a camera phone.

That's Lee's head against the window, facing away from the camera (err, phone).

Lee walking through the door out from the Q101 studio (the idol cameramen told us to cheer - ha, like they needed to!)

Kind of a creepy looking pic - I blame the phone.  I tried to get a pic with him, but the idol peeps ushered him off too quickly.  Sigh.

GOOOOOO LEE!

LEE DEWYZE IN MOUNT PROSPECT FOR THE PARADE!!

Ok, so in the comment section in a previous post, I stated that I'd be live-blogging from the Lee DeWyze (is it Dewyze or DeWyze?) hometown parade in Mount Prospect.

I lied.  Well, not intentionally.  But I didn't realize it'd be on a Friday (not a Saturday) and there were some other factors.  There'd be no way for me to get back downtown from MP with all that mayhem in time for Friday night festivities, and, let's face it, this girl has a lot going on.

Anyhow.

Well, Lee has quite a lot going on as well.  And one of the activities on his roster for the day was an interview with the Q101 morning radio show, which is in MY WORK BUILDING.

I think you know where this is going.  I stopped by outside, I took pics on my camera phone (I finally know the purpose of a camera phone), and (hopefully) got my mug on camera for something somewhere (???), and, more importantly, was a mere two feet from LEE DEWYZE.  He seemed very sweet, very laid back and very unaffected by his sudden burst of fame and fandom.  He had a huge smile and said what seemed to be a very sincere, excited 'you guys are great!' to the crowd, took a couple quick pics, said a quick apology for not being able to take more pics, and was ushered off quickly to the next event.

He was great!  I have pictures to prove this event - they will be coming shortly, as soon as I can figure out how to get them off the phone and onto the blog.  Here's hoping for the best....

More on Lee DeWyze

Well, actually, some questions. Let's have a little discussion forum.

Things I know about him:

--He's from Mt. Prospect
--He's a paint salesman (where at? true value? ace hardware? someone enlighten me!)
--My good friend Laura's younger sister Michele is good friends with Sarah DeWyze, who is Lee's sister (talk about six degrees of Kevin Bacon) (Meanwhile, if Sarah DeWyze googles herself regularly, she is probably incredibly weirded out by me. Eh, it happens.)
--Some of my fbook friends know and like him

Things I (or others) wonder about him:

--Does he have a girlfriend? Is she from Mt. Prospect? Do I know her? (Don't get me wrong; he's cute, but a little young for me)
--Why did he get transferred to Forest View? (controversial, I know)

Well, here's on other thing I know about him for sure - he HAS to make the top three for idol. Right now it's looking promising, but look at what happened with Alexis Grace of last season, or even LaKisha Jones of season 6. (I realize it's shameful I can make these references.) Anyhow. The top three idol contestants traditionally go back to their home town. There's then typically a big parade/to do in said hometown. This might be just what it takes to get me back to Mount Prospect.

Editor's Sidenote: So I just found out, online, whilst searching for info on Lee, that on Wednesday, Ryan Seacrest 'tweeted' that Lacey Brown was voted off American Idol after the show aired live (but prior to the show airing on the West Coast). Hey, the kid's only been doing the show for nine years - cut him some slack.

One More Sidenote: My mom's thoughts on Lee (adapted from a text): I like the hometown boy the best and not just cause that.

There you have it!

American Idol - Season 9

Lee Dewyze is my favorite so far. It's not just the Mount Prospectian-bias in me.

Do the judges get a save this season? Does anyone know? I have mixed feelings on it.

Mt. Prospect Pride!

So someone from Mount Prospect has made American Idol Season 9! His name is Lee Dewyze.

I don't know him. I am not sure where he went to high school, but it wasn't Hersey (at least while I was there). I notice quite a few of my Mt. Prospect facebook friends are becoming fans of him - I don't know if it's because they know him, if it's the good old Mount Prospect pride playing a role, or if they like him based on his actual singing.

I honestly can't remember anything about him in the past couple week's idol footage clips, if they've even shown him; which usually doesn't bode well for a contestant. However, I have a lot of Mount Prospect Pride; therefore, I will jump on the bandwagon and cheer for Lee!

Goooooo Lee!!

(P.S. Can anyone tell me something, anything, about him? Other than he's from MP? Thanks much.)
