Bright Red Lips?

So, as you all know, one of my favorite shows is So You Think You Can Dance, and it is back for season 9!  Get ready for some posts on the matter!  I'm sure you're all excited.

Anyhow.  One thing I notice is that one girl on the show with light blonde hair and a soft complexion always wears bright red lipstick.  Actually, it wasn't me who initially noticed it, but it was several of my facebook friends who pointed it out.  They noticed that, in one piece, she was forced (presumably, lol) to wear a different color to match her costume.   "Wasn't it weird to see her without her bright red lipstick?" they asked.  They are, apparently, not a fan of bright red lips.  Or, at least not, on her.  When I later watched the show (DVR'd), I, too, noticed her usually sporting bright red lips and it really jumped out at me in the one piece where she wasn't sporting them (perhaps some mind over matter came into play).

I remember having a friend who hated it when girls wore bright red lipstick.  I feel there's probably a good group of people in this world who seem to hate the look, or perhaps feel it's a little outdated (perhaps like blue eyeshadow, but then again, there's a market for the blue shadow too).

Anyhow - what's the general consensus on bright red lipstick?  Veto?  Only some can pull it off?  Go for it?

Well, I do not know offhand where I stand on this debate.  But there is one thing I do know.  I bought some.  Nars Norma, if you will (I assume it's Norma Jean/Marilyn being referenced).  I've only sported it a handful of times.  I don't wear it often because, well, there's nothing subtle about it.  Sometimes there's nothing subtle about me.  I'm not sure if I fall under the umbrella of 'can pull it off', but it's up to you, dear jury.

What are your thoughts on bright red lipstick?

Windy City Live

So this past Monday, I was in the studio audience of Windy City Live!  It was awesome!  My roommate from freshman year of college won tickets and invited me to go with.  This was my second time being on a TV show (I was on The View back in 2008).  I can be seen several times throughout this episode.  Also, here are some pics!  I wasn't familiar with Windy City Live prior to this, but I have to say - great lil show!  I will definitely be watching from now on.

Some More Kim Kardashian Humor

The other day, I was watching Jay Leno, and he commented on the fact that Kim kardashian has an autobiography coming out.

'Finally, we'll get a glimpse into the life of this mysterious elusive individual we know so little about. What is she going to talk about - what happens when they're changing the tape in the camera?'

I found that hilarious. I don't know why I find Kim humor that amusing.  She seems like a nice person and I certainly, at the very least, have nothing against her. But LOL.

On The Theme of the Last Post

I can't embed.  Try this link.

A classic.

This Was Great, We Should Do This Again Sometime!

So maybe I've been watching a little too much Friends on Nick at Nite....

So, there's the episode where Chandler goes on a date with a woman he ends up not being interest in (Rachel's boss).   At the end of said date, he says 'This was great, I'll give you a call, we should do this again sometime.'  And then, of course, he never calls.

Recently, I went out with a guy.  Towards the end, he brought up that he was having a great time, he would like to hang out again.  As we walked out, he mentioned a restaurant we'd both spoken about earlier in the evening - we should go there together sometime soon.  We went our separate ways (just a friendly goodbye hug - no one night stand, if your mind is going there ;-) ).

Drumroll, please.

As you might expect, he never called.

I can also think of a time I ran into a coworker with which I was acquaintances.   We chatted briefly and he brought up that we should totally get together and catch up for lunch or a happy hour.  Sure, I'd be up for it.  Then as we parted ways, he, again, said we should totally hang out.  Sure, drop me a line.  He has my phone number, email, and facebook.  This was three months ago - no word on the matter.  There had also been times when we'd worked together and we'd spoken of having lunch or going for coffee and it never happened.

One could very easily say I'm reading way too much into this - it simply slipped his mind, he got busy, he's just bad about making plans, etc.  I would even say this, however, he and I have another mutual friend who mentioned him and cited the exact same annoyance - he brings up 'we should hang out' and he doesn't follow through and is flaky when my other friend reaches out and tries to initiate.  This other mutual friend even cited the exact same Friends episode as a reference to him.

My other mutual friend said 'I don't get 'Joe's' deal - it's fine if he doesn't want to be friends with me or hang out, but why does he then bring it up?  I can't really tell if he actually likes me or not.'

Your thoughts? Why do some people talk about making plans and hanging out when they have no intention or desire?  I could see smiling and nodding and going along with it if the other person brought it up, but why suggest it when one has no intention?  Anyone else deal with these kind of people?  I can honestly say I certainly didn't mind that said guy never called me and, although I like said former coworker, it certainly isn't a big deal to me that we never got together.  However, a small part of me ends up feeling annoyed that these people are liars (or something like that).  Your thoughts?

Testing A Theory?

Carrie: You said you were a Stewardess?
Miranda: I was testing a theory.
Carrie: A theory being?
Miranda: That men are threatened by powerful jobs. They don't want a lawyer, they want...
Aiden: A liar!
Miranda: I'm just saying as a lawyer, a partner no less, I got zero dates and as a stewardess, I got one for tomorrow night.
Carrie: I believe the correct term is flight attendant.
Miranda: Not if you wanna get laid.

I heard the other day on Eric & Kathy that there's some truth to this - that women who are in traditionally lucrative careers (such as doctors and lawyers) and single have quite a hard time getting dates because men are (sometimes even openly) intimidated by them.

This makes me sad.  I hope this isn't true, or, at least, gets phased out soon.  Women - what have been your experiences?   Is it better to 'lie down' whilst trying to date man?  No, not in that way.  Get your mind out of the gutter.  Is the job for pun-writer on Sex and the City still available?

Some Thoughts on Paula Abdul

She's really pretty.

She might be batshit crazy.  But she's really pretty.  I hope she gets it together.

Crazy Noise on Fox

Ok, last week I posted about the annoying, cell phone-esque noise during the Emmy's.  Apparently, it wasn't just an Emmy's thing.  One of my other readers noticed it during an episode of Glee.  It's now going strong during Sunday football.  I read on facebook that tons of other people notice it, and that it was also noticed during other shows (Fringe was the one referenced).  It apparently isn't every Fox show, because it was absent during The X Factor.

Ok - two questions:

1)  What is it?

2)  It's all over facebook/twitter.   Mind you, there has to be some Fox employee somewhere watching the shows as they air, I am assuming.   Or, at the very least, there must be some PR person keeping a watch on social networks...my point being- it's been a week of this nonsense - FOX has to be aware of it at this point.  Why can't they make it go away?  Is it some bizarro glitch they can't fix?  Is it, as someone suggested, an attempt at a subliminal message?  Are they trying to force me to vote republican?  Will it work?

Ok, that was was more than two questions.  Sorry, my readers.  Your thoughts?

Emmy Recap.

There is only one thing I want to say on the subject on this past Emmys.  It has nothing to do with the winners, the losers, the host, anyone's dress, etc.

What the F was that random recurring background noise?!  It drove me f'ing NUTS.  It sounded like a cell phone alarm (eh er eh eh), only it NEVER stopped.  I know it had to be coming from the tv - when I turned it off or put it on silent, it went away.  I know, per a facebook post, that I was not the only one who heard this.  What WAS that?!  Does anyone know?  I'm not going to ask if anyone else heard it - I KNOW I'm not alone!!!

The Worst Part of A First Date.

...taken directly from Seinfeld:

Jerry: Dating is really starting to get embarrassing isn't it?
Elaine: I know. You know, whenever I'm on a date I feel people can tell.
Jerry: People on dates shouldn't even be allowed out in public.
Elaine: You can say that again.
Jerry: It's embarrassing for them. It's painful for us to watch. I'm going out with someone later, I'm not even taking her out of the house.
Elaine: Good for you.
Jerry: I don't need a bunch of people staring at us.

Update on Lee DeWyze

Last year, I spent a good amount of time following Lee DeWyze and his American Idol journey.  I also followed his personal life.

I have recently learned an update.  Per the American Idol facebook page, he is now engaged.  Her name is either Joanna or Jonna Walsh (I've seen both in the American Idol article).  Apparently, they met while casting for his video 8 months ago.  So, apparently, any rumor of him dating Lacey Brown was just that (or it ended quite a while ago).

Anyhow.  I send my sincere congrats Lee's way.  This does make me a little sad that I won't marry him.  (Another complication that would prevent this is that I've never actually met him in person.)  Anyhow.   It looks like our nice little young Mount Prospect boy has a fiance.  Best wishes, Lee!

Online Dating Commercials

Whenever I'm watching a TV show and dating website advertisement comes on, I feel compelled to change the channel.  Not because I don't want to look at the dating website ad, but because I feel like I must be watching something shameful.  Like, the media buyer who bought this ad space must have viewed the typical demographic for said show as sad and lonely and on the edge - like I imagine those watching QVC at 9:00PM on a Saturday night in pajamas with a cookie dough roll in one's hand to be.  These people are on the verge of asking themselves "what the hell am I doing right now?  somebody help me!"  Enter the eharmony commercial.  So whenever I see and e-harm or match commercial come on, I'm tempted to jump for the clicker - not because I think there's anything wrong with online dating (cough, cough), but because it makes me think something's wrong with THIS SHOW.

American Idol Update

So, I don't have much of an update.  I stopped watching.  However, I do find it a little insane that hometown girl Haley Reinhart made it this far - especially because hometown local boy Lee DeWyze won last year.  That, and if I remember correctly - the other two finalists aren't better than her.  Could the northwest suburbs have back-to-back idols?  Do you think Haley is good enough to be the American Idol?  Does being the American Idol mean anything any more?  Did it ever?  Have our last three or four winners had any real commercial success?   Is the show going to live another season?  Should they keep the same judges?

Your thoughts?

Idol.

Ok, as of now, I'm staying with it.

My favorite girl.

Haley Reinhart.  Maybe it's the northwest suburban bias talking.  She's from Wheeling.   Last year we obviously had the Lee DeWyze win (but has it actually done anything for his career?  maybe these questions are details....)  Then the blackhawks won the Stanley Cup.  They say these things happen in threes.

However.  My favorite overall idol contestant thus far.

Paul MacDonald.

I don't know if it's the voice, or the style of singing, as much as it is the cute guyness (it worked for Kris Allen!).  Or maybe it's the fashion statements he makes:

I love the jacket.  But moreso, I love the kind of man who can wear that kind of jacket.   He makes a statement.  I like that.  I'll pick up the phone to keep him around just to see what he wears next.

Friends Inconsistencies....

imgres.jpg

Ok, so I was recently re-watching all the Friends Thanksgiving episodes.

On the fourth season of Friends, Phoebe mentions she needs to call her mom to ask her a left-handed cooking question.  Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but Phoebe's mom is dead and has been the entire series.

I tried to google this issue.  No one seemed to fully address this issue.  There are some blogs out there that seem to have a problem with the inconsistency about whether or not the tv remains on consistently throughout the scene, but no one seems to address the bigger issue.  Does Phoebe mean her step-mom?  Does she have a step-mom that's still around?  Why doesn't she say 'step-mom' then?

Has ANYONE else ever caught this?  Does anyone else have a problem with this?

My Lee DeWyze Encounter Back in Mount Prospect (for the Welcome Home Parade Festivities)

Lee in the Q101 booth - he's pretty much dead center in the picture.  Sorry for the poor quality - it's from a camera phone.

That's Lee's head against the window, facing away from the camera (err, phone).

Lee walking through the door out from the Q101 studio (the idol cameramen told us to cheer - ha, like they needed to!)

Kind of a creepy looking pic - I blame the phone.  I tried to get a pic with him, but the idol peeps ushered him off too quickly.  Sigh.

GOOOOOO LEE!

My Favorite Episode of Friends

I've been thinking about it.  I love them all so much, but my favorite is....

Drumroll please....

The one where everyone finds out.

Honorable mentions:

The one with all the Embryos.

The one with Ross's Sandwich.

Has Anyone Else Noticed....

So I'm watching Charles in Charge, Season 4 on dvd (and I realize I'm subjecting myself to a lot of judgment on this one) and I couldn't help but notice....

It appears as though the episodes are out of order.  For example, the first episode has Charles living in the basement and the pizza parlor has been remade into a diner, however, later episodes feature these events happening.  I am quite curious - did these episodes not have an order on file?  Was it forgotten?  Were the creators of the dvd not able to figure out a proper order?  I could see the confusion on some episodes, but based on some events, the chronology is clearly off.  I noticed on an earlier season that the first episode was a Christmas episode, which seemed off.  Do other series on dvd have this issue?  Am I the only one who noticed this about Charles in Charge?

Please stop judging me.

Where the Heck is this Show?

I really like this show. It's, again, far and away the best original program TBS has come up with (EVER). Not that I'm qualified to judge, as though I've watched every original TBS show on the air. In fact, I don't think I can sit through an episode of most of their other crap. Anyone remember 'She's a Lady'? Or that one created by Cox-Arquette that documented some British person coming to America? Epic fails.

Anyhow.

The one thing I don't like about My Boys is that it comes around for such a short stint. It's ridiculous. It's gone all year then comes back for six to eight episodes? Come on, TBS, it's not like you have BETTER PROGRAMING. Are the 'My Boys' writers really THAT BUSY?

Sigh. Anyhow. Apparently, it is coming back soon (perhaps in June)...according to some rumors. Last year, it came back on this day, exactly. Why make us wait so long, TBS? Why so long?

Anyone else know any updates on this?
