Eat, Pray, Love

Ok - just a question - did anyone out there REALLY LIKE this book?

Let me preface this by saying I haven't read it - however, several of my friends (my reading afficionados, if you will) read it and HATED it.  In fact, everyone I know personally whom I've spoken with on this book said they didn't like it.  However, it is a bestseller and all.  Do I just happen to know the pocket of people who hold unpopular opinion?  Or are there just a bunch of lemmings over the cliff on this?  Is this another 'The Secret'?!

Have any of my readers read it?  Did you like it?  Should I read it?  Your thoughts?

They Strike Again....

So some of my readers might notice that I haven't blogged much on the subject of the Old Navy mannequins.

I've decided to treat them like the annoying kid back in junior high.  He or she is only acting out for attention - the worst thing one can do is give it what it wants.  I'm using the method of ignoring it with hopes it will go away.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Four years ago, in June 2006, two early twenties, lost, confused girls had a run in at the fax machine in a very gray office building.

J:  Hi.
E:  I'll be done with the fax machine in a minute.
J:  No, I meant hi.

Despite the rough start, a mere couple months later, said two girls started carpooling the first week of September.

There are Two Types of People in this World....

....those who sit on the computer all day whilst at work, and those who don't.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but walk with me for a second here....

I was recently speaking with a good friend (who shall remain nameless).  She complained that she feels slightly out of the loop because she can't sit on gchat all day, as the rest of her girlfriends can.

I think of my high school girlfriends - our group of four.   Three of us are in the former group - one in the latter.  The one in the latter always complains she feels like she hasn't talked to us in forever and doesn't know what's going on as well as the others do.  This isn't really a big deal since we all still speak with each other on the phone or in person. 

Anyhow.  I can see this having a more profound effect on some other friendships and how they're shaped.  I am sure there are some more severe cases out there.  It is almost having as much of an effect as physical distance - even though we might keep in touch with friends in other states and still consider them out best friends, they aren't as much a part of our lives at times because of it.  Your thoughts?

I do not pick the ads on the side of my blog.  However, Jaime's blog does not discriminate.  I think we all need some love.  I am curious how this came up - was it because of the 'it starts with a wink' post?  Was it the online dating?  Are there good gay online dating sites?  Should I start one?  Is that the next million dollar idea?

Answering Machines

I believe Seinfeld did a bit on this (actually, I think his bit was on the word 'over' at the bottom of a handwritten note's first page, but let's just say this is the updated version)....

Do we REALLY need an explanation on what to do when one reaches an answering machine?  REALLY?  Is anyone out there, living in a civilized society, confused about 'wait for the beep, leave a message'?   Is there anyone out there who uses a phone who doesn't already have experience dealing with these things?  I can't imagine someone having a moment of 'ah?!  so-and-so isn't answering, but this thing is - WHAT do I do now?  I want to leave a message, but I'm just not sure how.'

Please let me know if you've ever experienced said moment.

Something Random I Found Funny....

This gift is near and dear to my heart.  I have NEVER been able to get keychains, magnets, etc., with my name on it.  Sigh.  I always swore I'd make sure to give my kids names with only one spelling - but people have gotten so creative these days, that doesn't really seem possible.  Hmm.  Anyhow.   I will enjoy my new keychain.  It has been a long time coming - 27 years, to be honest.

Careers

So lately, as my friends and I enter various career paths and begin to climb the proverbial 'corporate ladder', if you will, I am faced with a question - do people choose their careers, or do they just end up on a certain path and continue going that way?

I remember once, early on in my working experience, having a VP of sales comment to me that he still didn't know what he wanted to do when he grew up.

Is this similar to the concept of SATC's taxi theory?  Men marry the woman who is there - people end up in the in the field of work that is 'there'.   How much is truly 'picking'?  I often times think of professional athletes - most of them started their sports when they were too young to decide it for themselves - their parents chose it for them.  Then, as they got good at it, they liked it so they stayed with it.  Do our careers really choose us?

I do believe 'professional blogger' has chosen me.  I just need the money to start rolling in.
