Addiction Problems?

So I have several friends who've 'quit facebook' recently.

In a couple incidents - I've asked said friends why, exactly, they quit good ole friendcentral.

"I've just been super-busy.  I haven't had the time for it."

or

"I had to quit.  It was too distracting."

Now, not to judge - but couldn't one just....not log in?

Again, no judgment.  I understand addictions.  I haven't been able to cut it under 3 cups of coffee a day. I understand addictions to facebook.  But, well....

Just sayin'.

Coffee Withdrawals

So, for reasons, ahem, better left unsaid, a doctor told me recently to cut back on my coffee intake.

I was in his office discussing, ahem, personal concerns.

"Let me ask you this," he said.  "How much caffeine do you drink?"

"Umm.  A lot.  Probably more than I should."

"How much is a lot?"

"Umm, around 4-5 cups of coffee a day."  (Approximately two pops a day omitted - I was going to mention them, but his eyes already got huge with shock.)

"That amount of caffeine wouldn't be good for anyone," he said very seriously.

He wants me to cut back to 1-2 cups a day.  I am right now working down to 3.  Baby steps.

I rand this by a facebook audience.  Some were equally appalled by my intake.  Others said 'pssh, I drink that much, screw the doc.'

I am in the process of trying to listen to my doctor.  What are your thoughts?  Do any of my fellow readers drink this much Joe?  Anyone have any good tips on getting off the caffeine addiction?  Every day I'm dragging by 9pm and falling asleep on the couch.  I don't have to wake up early for work, so I don't, in general.  So I am very well-rested and exhausted and dragging, all at the same time.

Anyone else struggle with vices?

Why I Like Little Tiny Corner Coffee Shops

Kind of like Avis Rental Car - we're #2, we try harder.   Photo taken at Kickstand Espresso shop in Lakeview.  And M is for Mocha (I assume).

Trivia

Can anyone out there correctly identify my coffee mug? I'll give you a hint - it's on the second shelf.  Look closely.  There it is, just trying to fit in with the others.  Like junior high all over again.

Any guesses?

Book Review

I can sum up the Millennium series in a couple sentences.

They drink coffee.   All hours of the day.  Sometimes accompanied by sandwiches.  All hours of the day.  Some stuff happened.  They drank more coffee.

Oh, and Blomkvist gets laid.  A lot.

Oh Mr. Coffee

Earlier this week, I suffered a loss.

My Mr. Coffee pot decanter (is that the right word?) broke.  I dropped it whilst washing the dishes.  Who knew glass was so fragile.  This comes one day after my purple wine glass broke.  When it rains, it pours....

Anyhow.  I was having trouble figuring out where/how to buy the replacement for the four cupper.  (I'm merely one soul).  I called Bed Bath & Beyond.  I asked them if they sold the four cupper decanter.   They said no.  They asked me if I bought it from there.  I said I wasn't sure, it was a gift from four years ago.  I didn't have the receipt or anything like that.  He said it's ok, bring it in, we'll give you a new one.

So I brought him in.  I felt like I was doing something dirty.  I figured the girls at the customer service counter were going to cock-block my return.  But no.  I told them the exact story and they said sure, I could definitely just have a new one!!!

I did my best to keep a poker face until I got out of the store.  I felt like I'd just robbed a bank.  Prior to now, I wasn't so sure about this 'Bed Bath and Beyond Store' (why put expiration dates on the coupons when they don't expire?).  However, now I'm compelled to shop there (and return there) till I drop!

The Keurig Vs. The Tassimo?

A question. Which is better? I know, blah blah, there are pros and cons to both. If I were to buy one, which should I opt for? Any users out there? Your thoughts? Thanks.

Something New I Learned Today....

"Do you want a scone with your latte?" is the new "Do you want fries with that?"

As in:

The graduate with a physics degree says, "How does that work?'
The graduate with an engineering degree says, "Why does that work?"
The graduate with a technical degree says, "I can make that work?"
The graduate with a liberal arts degree says, "Do you want fries with that?"

I will try to appropriately update my personal joke repertoire.
