Where the Heck is this Show?

I really like this show. It's, again, far and away the best original program TBS has come up with (EVER). Not that I'm qualified to judge, as though I've watched every original TBS show on the air. In fact, I don't think I can sit through an episode of most of their other crap. Anyone remember 'She's a Lady'? Or that one created by Cox-Arquette that documented some British person coming to America? Epic fails.

Anyhow.

The one thing I don't like about My Boys is that it comes around for such a short stint. It's ridiculous. It's gone all year then comes back for six to eight episodes? Come on, TBS, it's not like you have BETTER PROGRAMING. Are the 'My Boys' writers really THAT BUSY?

Sigh. Anyhow. Apparently, it is coming back soon (perhaps in June)...according to some rumors. Last year, it came back on this day, exactly. Why make us wait so long, TBS? Why so long?

Anyone else know any updates on this?

The Best Thing About Getting Married....

So my friend, Rachel, is getting married in the next couple months. She mentioned how she has recently completed her registry and how exciting it is to periodically check in and see the gifts she picked getting purchased.

In a previous post, I commented that I think the most exciting thing about getting married would be creating a page on theknot.com. I lied. Or I changed my mind. Registering for gifts is far and away the winner.

I cannot imagine - going to Crate & Barrel, Pier 1, BBB, Macy's (all the stores I have very recently come to love) and just making a list - like one big giant letter to Santa)....

Sigh. I am so jealous. If I had a registry, I'd be refreshing it more often than facebook. Speaking of registries - must they be limited to weddings/showers? I think I might do one for every birthday/Christmas/what have you from now on.

Random sidenote: Ever notice how awkward it is to buy some gifts on a wedding registry? I've been to a handful of friends weddings and I've often struggled with the concept of some of the gifts. 'Congratulations on your marriage - here's a big giant knife!'

Best of Chicago

So, once in a while I like to give some of my favorite small businesses in Chicago a shoutout. Today - Gus's Shoe Repair on Clark in Lincoln Park.

This man is a shoe doctor. Or perhaps a shoe artist. Either way.

Anyhow. He has a very small shop and is relatively inexpensive (I really don't know the market for shoe repair). However, what I do know is that it's considerably cheaper ($10) to get a pair of shoes re-heeled than it is to get a brand new pair of black pumps. I don't believe this guy advertises or even has his own website, but, per his yelp page, he seems to do ok on word of mouth.

Anyway - this is one of the best little shops of Chicago. Many women's magazines (such as Cosmo), claim that once a shoe's heel's spike is exposed and it looks like the shoe above, it is unsalvageable. Gus will tell you otherwise. (Cue for a friend of mine to comment that Cosmo can't be trusted.)

Please take very careful note of the above shoe's appearance because an after picture will, indeed, be posted.

More on Lee DeWyze

Well, actually, some questions. Let's have a little discussion forum.

Things I know about him:

--He's from Mt. Prospect
--He's a paint salesman (where at? true value? ace hardware? someone enlighten me!)
--My good friend Laura's younger sister Michele is good friends with Sarah DeWyze, who is Lee's sister (talk about six degrees of Kevin Bacon) (Meanwhile, if Sarah DeWyze googles herself regularly, she is probably incredibly weirded out by me. Eh, it happens.)
--Some of my fbook friends know and like him

Things I (or others) wonder about him:

--Does he have a girlfriend? Is she from Mt. Prospect? Do I know her? (Don't get me wrong; he's cute, but a little young for me)
--Why did he get transferred to Forest View? (controversial, I know)

Well, here's on other thing I know about him for sure - he HAS to make the top three for idol. Right now it's looking promising, but look at what happened with Alexis Grace of last season, or even LaKisha Jones of season 6. (I realize it's shameful I can make these references.) Anyhow. The top three idol contestants traditionally go back to their home town. There's then typically a big parade/to do in said hometown. This might be just what it takes to get me back to Mount Prospect.

Editor's Sidenote: So I just found out, online, whilst searching for info on Lee, that on Wednesday, Ryan Seacrest 'tweeted' that Lacey Brown was voted off American Idol after the show aired live (but prior to the show airing on the West Coast). Hey, the kid's only been doing the show for nine years - cut him some slack.

One More Sidenote: My mom's thoughts on Lee (adapted from a text): I like the hometown boy the best and not just cause that.

So, over a course of time, I have collected quite a few wine corks from empty wine bottles (no judgment). At first I was throwing them out, but then I decided to start saving them for some reason. I've now got a bit of them saved up. I seem to remember that a former roommate of mine mentioned something about someone she knew making something out of used wine corks.

Since I'm feeling rather artsy & craftsy and (it pains me to say this) domestic lately - does anyone have any project suggestions on this one? I have quite a few artsy/craftsy/domestic people in my life - I look forward to some feedback.

My Early Long Shot Pick to Win American Idol

Siobhan Magnus.

The pronunciation of her first name really threw me. I like the way it sounds but seeing it in writing - it's kind of ugly. Anyhow.

Also, I think this girl, with a proper makeover (which she'd probably highly object to) has the potential to be really pretty.

Anyhow. I predicted Jordin Sparks early on. It was before this blog was born, so I couldn't put it down in writing at the time. But now I can. All of cyberspace; you are my eyewitness(es).

Big Milestone....

My blog turns 2 this Wednesday. I'm going to celebrate by...going to work and getting a haircut? Or something like that. Hopefully I'll have a couple good posts to put out there by then. Sorry, I've had quite the blogger's block lately. I will do my best to change that.

So I Speed-Dated....

Hmm, let's see what's to report....

I met 11 guys. I had five mutual matches. I may be going out with two of them (as of now). Here's hoping they don't find this blog via google-stalking.

Hmm. What's more to say? Well, I enjoyed the experience. As I said, I met 11 guys, for five minutes each. I would have preferred to meet more guys for, say, 3 minutes each. There were some guys who I felt were nice, decent people, however, I didn't necessarily want to date them, but I felt I could want to be friends with them.

Anyhow.

There was only one 'stand out' moment, if you will. One guy walks up to the table. We are wearing name tags, mind you. He looks over at my name tag. "Don't worry," he assures me, "I'm not staring at your boob." Wow. He got the word boob in in under 5 seconds. He then went on to ask me when my last relationship was and why it failed. (Anything from boob, though, was a step in the right direction. Well, almost anything.) Anyhow. He then segued into something about how, with girls he used to date, he used to lead them on.... Needless to say, he was not listed as a match on my end.

All in all, I enjoyed this event. I would do such a thing again. Definitely an event a person needs to go to with a friend. Definitely fun, but I can't say I had any bad experiences. If I acquire a stalker over the next couple weeks, I might be singing a different tune.

Traveling Alone

So, I was out with some girlfriends the other night, and this topic came up. Traveling alone. And how we all should do it at some point in our lives.

I am little scared by the idea of this, however, I kind of want to try it. I always say I wished I had a boyfriend simply for a travel buddy. I should so ditch that idea and try this plan out.

Does anyone out there actually do this? Where is a good place to go? I always said I wanted to see France, and no one I would travel with wants to, so I am thinking this is a possibility, but maybe I should start out smaller scale. Your thoughts?

Lee Dewyze is my favorite so far. It's not just the Mount Prospectian-bias in me.

Do the judges get a save this season? Does anyone know? I have mixed feelings on it.

Old Navy Supermodelquins

Just a quick moment to revisit these worst commercials ever - the Old Navy mannequins - or supermodelquins, or whatever you want to call them. Yes, I still hate them. More than ever. I especially hate the one where they are pretending to be on "America's Next Top Model' (or so I've been told that's what that commercial is, since I don't watch that show). I also really really hate the one where they pretend to be the Radio City Rockettes. And the one where they block out the naked mannequin. The list goes on and on and on....

Are Old Navy's sales up? Do people like these commercials? Does anyone like the Old Navy mannequins? Inquiring minds want to know!!!
