A Word On Martha Stewart

Ok, guilty pleasure - I LOVE Martha Stewart.  It might be her craftiness.  It might be that she's a powerful, successful, independent woman who likes domestic things.

However, a small part of me really likes Martha Stewart because of her story is a comeback story.  She was in jail.  She paid her dues.  She picked herself up, dusted herself off, and kept doing what she loved and now, it's as if it never happened.  She did, in theory, what jailbirds are supposed to do - she went back to being a functioning member of society.  I realize she's definitely not your average american (or average jailbird), but I think she can really set the example here.

Anyhow - I LOVE her lines at Macy's, etc.  And I think when it comes to celebrity comebacks, she kicks Britney's ass!

Dear Santa...

So 'Santa' has made multiple requests for my Christmas list.

I am struggling.  Most of the things I want cannot be found in a stocking (I know, how profound).

Anyone else find adult Christmas lists to be quite boring?  Dear Santa, I would like the Martha Stewart wire colander.  Ooh, let's throw in rolling pin while we're at it!

The Martha Stewart Orbital Spice Rack.

I recently bought a similar one for a friend (Kat) for her bridal shower.   I decided to treat myself to one as well -  I often find myself needing to pick up random spices from the grocery store.  This is the perfect solution to it!

I believe this is what some call 'a cry for help'.

Art

So, there is a large blank spot above my television.  Now that I'm such a dignified adult, living on my own, I need some art in my life.

Now, I found some art I like whilst window shopping in Lakeview (www.franklieart.com).  How could I not like a wine bottle with a purple frame and leopard print curtain?  I am still thinking of it, however, it is toward the top of my price range.

Now, quick question - where does one buy art in Chicago?  Where does one buy reasonably priced, not too modern of art?  I am curious.  What have you other young Chicagoans done for art?   Please advise. 

Coffeetables....

So I own the above plain Ikea coffee table.  I believe it cost $20.  I have the matching side table for $12.

Dear reader, I think you can understand why I chose said pieces of furniture.

However, they 'do' for now.

Recently, the 'Martha Stewart' in me thought I might 'do' something to them.  Such a paint or tile them.  Anyone out there know anything about bricolaging (or decoupaging?) a table?  Your thoughts?  Recommendations?  Suggestions?  New hobby ideas for me?

Call Me Martha Freakin' Stewart

I made wine cork coasters.   All the 'ingredients' are pictured above.   It was quite the fun project.  The most fun part of the project is acquiring the wine corks - I recommend doing it the old-fashioned way.

Anyhow. 

Sidenote:  I am not sure how well these coasters WORK.  Like, for their intended purpose.  They are a little wobbly.  Not all wine corks are created equal.  They are not all the same size.  Maybe I did something wrong and could have done something more to balance this out.  I dunno.  Martha would probably yell at me if she were here.  Regardless, I like them.  I might morph them into a wine cork-corkboard instead - time will tell.  Updated to come. 

Calling Martha Stewart....

So, over a course of time, I have collected quite a few wine corks from empty wine bottles (no judgment). At first I was throwing them out, but then I decided to start saving them for some reason. I've now got a bit of them saved up. I seem to remember that a former roommate of mine mentioned something about someone she knew making something out of used wine corks.

Since I'm feeling rather artsy & craftsy and (it pains me to say this) domestic lately - does anyone have any project suggestions on this one? I have quite a few artsy/craftsy/domestic people in my life - I look forward to some feedback.
