Olympics

So, I recently spent a lot of time watching the Olympics.  I am going to do my best to not use this as an excuse as to why I haven't been blogging (seeing that it wasn't simply at 16 day hiatus).

Anyhow.  I really love the olympics.  I don't know why I like them so much.  I even like watching sports that I would normally have no interest in watching if it were ANY OTHER COMPETITION.  It's almost a branding issue.  It's THE OLYMPICS!  I'll watch competitive paint drying, for goodness sake!

Regardless.  There's one thing that's hard to deal with in the Olympics.  The thought of the heartbreak.  All those who've worked so hard the previous four years (or their whole lives) who don't make the team.  Or make the team but then have a bad meet the day of competition.  Or those who are injured at just the wrong moment.  I feel for these peeps.  For everyone who wins, there are ton who end up unsatisfied.  Sigh.

Anyhow.  I am secretly glad to have several hours of my day and my weekends back.  Till the next four years!

Pretending to be a Hockey Fan.

My friend Eric had the Stanley Cup in his workplace, so he let me come in and take a picture with it.  He is originally from Michigan, so he wore his Red Wings jersey.  I can't blame him.  If you're from the Detroit area, you gotta focus on the positive....

Random Inquiry

Ever notice how there are some people who are fans of what seem to be completely random sports teams from other parts of the country?! Like, I get it when people are fans of a team from the state they grew up in, or something to that extent. However, I know there are others who have huge allegiances to teams with not personal ties to the city or college associated with it. Now, I get it if there's a certain player or certain team dynamic that a person can appreciate - however, these things often change over from year to year. I dunno, maybe this just has to do with me not being very into team sports to begin with. In the words of Jerry Seinfeld - are we cheering for the clothes?

Bulls Lose!

I don't feel sorry for them. I auditioned for the Luvabulls four years ago and they bounced me. Although, for multiple reasons, it appeared that everything worked out for the best this way, I never forgave them. So I don't cheer against the Bulls, but I can't say I cry for their losses. It's not like when my favorite figure skater falls or something.

It's Almost Here....

A MAJOR SPORTING EVENT. No, not the NCAA tournament. I'm talking about the figure skating WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS! WOOHOO! Can you sense my excitement?

I am cheering for Evan and Alissa. You can't really tell from this picture, but Evan is HOT. And from Buffalo Grove, which is not far from where I grew up.
