my two cents: i bought a sony camera a little over a year ago and it has broke- for the 2nd time already!!!!!! they were wonderful about fixing it the first, but now i'm not sure what to do since the warranty is expired (and it is having the EXACT SAME problem it had the first time). it was rated highly in all the consumer magazines, but i've had nothing but troubles.
Nikon Coolpix S210. Affordable, easy to use, small (will fit in your pocket) and takes great pictures. I go to the horse races and you can take a picture of the horses going by full speed and it is as clear as it can be. It also has a panoramic assist that leaves an imprint of the previous shot on the display so you can overlap your pictures to make perfect panoramic shots. It also comes with software that will stitch your shots together to make the panoramic pictures. It is also 8.1 megapixel so you can blow your pictures up pretty big if you want. I would like it even better if it had a little more zoom, but other than that it is an amazing camera for a point and shoot. Any of the Nikon's are quality cameras, one of the things really I like about this model is the size and the great pics.

Jaime,
I highly recommend Ken Rockwell's comments. He's entertaining, blunt and mostly accurate.

Canon SD series. Can't go wrong for a point and shoot.
